One Killed As Jie Warriors Attack Health Facility to Rescue Injured Colleague

Simon Peter Makeng was shot in the leg on Saturday in Kacheri town Council by UPDF soldiers after resisting arrest following reports of possession of an illegal firearm.

One person was killed after a group of armed Jie warriors on Sunday attacked Kacheri Health Centre III in Kotido District to rescue one of their own who had been admitted to the facility.

Simon Peter Makeng was shot in the leg on Saturday in Kacheri town Council by UPDF soldiers after resisting arrest following reports of possession of an illegal firearm.

He was then taken to the facility for treatment, however, a group of 20 armed criminals believed to be his associates attacked the facility to rescue him.

However, they were repulsed by the army who were tipped off by the medical workers at the facility.

The UPDF 3rd Infantry Division Spokespersons, Captain Edrin Mawanda says that one warrior was killed during the attack.

Fredrick Leperes, in Charge of Kacheri Health Centre III also confirmed the incident saying that calm has returned to the facility.

“The incident happened last night but we are now operating normally. The security forces came to our rescue,” said Leperes.

On Saturday, two suspected Jie warriors were killed in a fire exchange with the UPDF in Kotido district.  The exchange took place in Namaire Village in Kalosarich near Toror Hills in Panyangara Sub County.
