The State of the Nation address will be held in the Parliament packing lot, ending hours of hob-nobbing on the venue.

Initially, Parliament was informed by State House that the function will be hosted at Kololo Independence Grounds. The move to host the event at Kololo was to cater for the social distancing to accommodate the entire population of parliament. The current parliament has 458 Members.

But later, the venue was changed to State House Entebbe, where only 45 members would be hosted. However, after hours of meetings and coordination, the function has been shifted to Parliament, with only five additional guests who will join the legislators, Ministers and the Presidents entourage.

According to Hellen Kaweesa, the Acting Director for Corporate and Public Affairs at Parliament, the five include the Chief Justice Bart Katureebe, the Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) David Muhoozi, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Martin Okoth Ochola, the Commissioner General of Prisons (CGP) Johnson Byabashaija and the High Commissioner of the Republic of Rwanda in his capacity as the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps.

“Yes we are working around the clock to set up, we had fully set up at Kololo but, now we are working to ensure that by morning we are done setting up,” Kaweesa told URN on phone.

The State of the Nation usually attracts officials from all departments of Government, the Private sector, Religious leaders, cultural leaders, youth leaders, the ambassadors of the different countries in Uganda, different opinion leaders among others.
