African footballer of the year (Africa based), Denis Onyango is hopeful to feature for his club Mamelodi Sundowns against KCCA FC in Kampala on Saturday.
The Uganda Cranes goalkeeper who missed the first leg as his team beat KCCA FC 2-1 last Friday told URN on Tuesday that he is hopeful he will be fit to feature in that game.
Onyango has been out injured for the last two weeks. The South African and African champions are expected to arrive on Wednesday afternoon ahead of the game at the Philip Omondi Stadium. “I have been responding well to treatment an light training,” Onyango told URN.
Mamelodi Sundowns last night settled for a goalless draw against Polokwane City in a Absa Premiership match at the Loftus Vresfeld. But they will also miss midfielder Tiyani Mabunda who picked up a shoulder problem during the game with KCCA FC.
Meanwhile, KCCA FC coach Mike Mutebi has urged his team to work hard ahead of the game. “We need to make use of our home advantage. Yes we shall be facing defending champions, but we also have our chance at home,” added Mutebi.
Striker Geoffrey Sserunkuma who scored the lone goal in South Africa last week said he is hungry to keep scoring more goals for the club.
A 1-0 win will see KCCA FA qualify for the group stage of the lucrative tournament. In-case they fail to qualify they will shift to the CAF Total Confederations Cup and play one of the teams that qualifies for the second round.
