Opposition parties behind the free Uganda now campaign, have today launched the free Uganda caravan. Social Democratic Party President Michael Mabika who is also coordinator of the campaign announced that their activities are to start in Jinja next week on Thursday.
This will be followed by Mbale on Friday and Soroti on Saturday. Mabike says the campaign will continue to call for collective action against the government and warn Ugandans of the tough economic times ahead. He says it is time to bring on board up country people since Uganda is saturated with political activity.

The caravan activities will include mass rallies, town hall meetings and mass readings to sensitize Ugandans on the developments in the country. Mabike says they have informed the police about their activities and hope they will not be stopped.
UPC President Olara Otunnu says they want to effect democratic change in the country and unite all the sectors of society. He is confident that the protests will be successful and dismissed allegations that they do not have the support of other political parties such as Forum for Democratic Change.
Otunnu says he discussed with the leader of opposition in Parliament Nandala Mafabi and FDC President Dr. Kiiza Besigye about their planned activities. He adds that there is a structure of oppression that is leaning on all Ugandans who must now unite.

But Vincent Ssekatte, the police deputy spokesperson says that he is not aware of the planned protests.
