Parents, teachers, and pupils of Oreku Primary School in Arua City are celebrating a major transformation after the handover of a newly renovated classroom block.
The five-classroom facility, which includes an office unit, had been in a dilapidated state for over a decade, with its roof partially destroyed by a storm. With funding worth UGX 108 million from the NSSF Kampala Hills Run 2023, the school was selected for rehabilitation early last year.
Renovation works were completed by December 2024, and the project also saw the school connected to electricity, thereby enhancing learning conditions and educational standards in the region. During the commissioning of the facility on Wednesday, Oreku Primary School head teacher Luis Onzima expressed deep appreciation for the support.

Onzima said the improved learning environment has already led to an increase in pupil enrolment this year and called for further support, particularly in sanitation facilities for learners.
Beatrice Sandra Yikiru, a Primary Seven pupil and prefect at the school, also hailed the project for easing congestion in classrooms, which she said had been a significant challenge.

The Principal Education Officer for Arua City, Raymond Ombere, welcomed the development, noting that inadequate classrooms had long hampered the learning environment.

Following the renovation and electricity connection, the school’s enrolment has jumped from 1,475 in 2024 to 1,637 pupils this year.
