Otuke LCIII Chairperson Remanded Over Robbery

Prosecution alleges that Otyama mobilized hundreds of local residents armed with spears and pangas to attack 10 Karimojong herdsmen who had been herding their animals within Olilim Sub County.
Francis Otyama, the chairperson of Olilim Sub County in Lira District has been remanded to prison on allegations of robbery. Otyama is accused of robbing more than 400 head of cattle and hacking more than 200 sheep belonging to Karamojong herdsmen.

Prosecution alleges that Otyama mobilized hundreds of local residents armed with spears and panga's  to attack 10 Karimojong herdsmen who had been herding their animals within Olilim Sub County.

Paul Lowok, a District Councillor and coordinator of Karamojong herdsmen accused Otyama of inciting local residents against the pastoralists. Lowok said attempts to mediate with Otyama to allow the herdsmen stay within the area failed several times.

On Friday, Otyama appeared before the Lira Grade One Magistrate, Iga Adiru and pleaded not guilty to the charges. He was remanded to Lira Central Government Prison until January 22, 2019.
