Over 100 players have been dropped from the COPA Coca cola post primary football championship in Soroti. The players were dropped on Tuesday morning following a vigorous screening exercise which started on Saturday. Most of the affected players lacked proper identification documents showing that they are students in the schools they had come to represent.

Samuel Adome Ojula, the vice Chairperson of the competitions Technical committee says that there was a lot of impersonation. He says some of the players kicked out could neither tell the location of the schools they had come to represent state their subject combinations, implying that they were machineries.

Ojula says those who failed to defend their documents were immediately disqualified from the tournament in line with the guidelines issued by the education ministry.

Forty two teams including for both girls and boys are taking part in the competition, which kicked off on Monday at Soroti Municipal football grounds. Sylvester Ocaatum, the head teacher Teso College Aloet welcomed the disqualification of machineries from the tournament saying the matter has been discussed several times. Ocaatum add that hiring machineries denies genuine students a chance of exercising their talents, which sets a bad example.

He noted that the hired machineries create an avenue for teams that lose to cause chaos at the end of the day. Last year a serious fight broke out between teams, which accused each other of using machineries. As a result, Soroti failed to get a winning team from the competition.

Some of the schools  participating in the Copa Coca cola competitions are Teso college Aloet, Soroti Senior secondary school, Municipal SS, St. Pius vocational school, Municipal SS, Halcyon High school, Light SS, Community SS, Erimu College, Jeressar High school, Gweri SS, Olila high school, Crane high school, Noor SS, St. Mary's Madera girls SS, St.Stephen SS, Central SS, Light SS, Rehema high school, Alliance high school, Kingstone high school, Hometech high school , Tubur SS among others
