A police officer from Kira-Road Police Division who participated in the operation, says that the suspects were partying and drinking while playing loud music in violation of the government restrictions on social gathering as part of the COVID-19 containment measures.
At least 60 revelers spent the weekend in police custody for participating in a house party in Bukoto, a Kampala city suburb.
The suspects were picked up in a police raid on
Malayika Apartments in Ssemwogerere Zone-Bukoto Parish in Nakawa Division on Sunday following a tip-off from concerned local
leaders.
A police officer from Kira-Road Police Division who
participated in the operation, says that the suspects
were partying and
drinking while playing loud music
in violation of the government restrictions on social gathering as part of the
COVID-19 containment measures.
“We are still looking for two women who got some of these girls from different areas of
Kasanga, Ntinda, and Kisasi for the party. the suspects are all
locked up here at Kira- Road Police Division,” he said on Monday.
Henry Mukasa, one of the residents told
Uganda Radio Network (URN) that the suspects have been renting the apartments
every weekend for the past three months to stage their parties where engage in a sort of immorality.
He explains that the parties start on Friday evening and go on until
Sunday morning.

Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire said police have preferred charges of disobedience
of lawful orders and doing acts that are likely to cause the spread of
infectious disease against the suspects.
Fred Enanga, the Police spokesperson, says that they have intensified
operations against people violating
COVID-19 guidelines because a lot of such parties, gatherings, and celebrations have now started.

Last week, the Inspector general of police
instructed the director of operations Assistant Inspector General of Police-AIGP
Edward Ochom to change tactics and start arresting and seizing all properties
and equipment found
in bars and other places contravening the restrictions.
Ochola also warned all District Police Commanders against aiding the
operation of bars and other places of
social gathering.
