The Operation Wealth Creation-OWC Secretariat has ordered for the immediate recovery of all the heifers believed to have been sold by the beneficiaries in Lango Sub region.

The National Coordinator of OWC and Senior Presidential Adviser on Defense and Security, Gen. Salim Saleh issued the directive to Col. Bosco Omure, the OWC coordinator in Lango Sub region to recover the animals.

OWC has distributed unspecified number of heifers to politicians including district councilors, NRM party cadres and youths since 2014. However, majority of the beneficiaries are said to have sold off the animals.

In Kole district alone, more than eight heifers distributed to the leaders under OWC are said to have been sold off by the beneficiaries. Col. Omure says he has already set up a special team to establish the whereabouts of the animals.

Richard Omara Awio, a councilor in Lira district recently described dairy farming as unmanageable for majority of farmers across the region. He asked government to redirect the money used to buy the heifers to finance other enterprises, which are simple to manage.

But Margaret Atim, 54, a resident of Ogur Sub County in Lira district described dairy farming as rewarding much as it's demanding. Atim was among the first group of widows to receive heifers in 2014. She now has three cows that give her 60 liters of milk daily.

President Yoweri Museveni has been promoting Diary farming in lango region and is so passionate about the distribution of heifers to residents.
