The fire is reported to have started at 11pm razing down close to half of the market.
Early reports indicate that the fire started from Nakivubo Park yard market spreading into Owino market before the fire brigade came on the scene to fight the blaze, an hour after it started.
Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson Ibin Senkumbi confirmed to Uganda Radio Network that he had received reports of the fire in the market. He said police had started investigations.
This is the third time in three years a fire has swept through the market.
