Oyam Conducts Mass Measles Vaccination

Oyam district health department has rolled out a mass immunization campaign against measles for children under the age of five.

She says that some of the children suffering from measles have been admitted to Minakulu Health Centre III, Amwa and Acimi Health Centre IIs.

Dr Agaro also says that village health teams have been directed to conduct door to door inspection and list victims with signs and symptoms of measles and also carry out mass sensitization campaigns.

On Monday, UVRI confirmed outbreak of measles in Ntoroko and Mayuge districts.

In May, government announced an outbreak of measles in 26 districts across the country. The most affected then included Amuru, Kamuli, Mbale and Butebo districts.

Measles also known as rubella is a viral infection of the respiratory system and a contagious disease that can spread through contact with infected mucus and saliva.
