Brigadier Sam Kavuma, the Commander of 5th Division of Uganda People's Defense Forces has attacked opposition politicians for politicizing land matters in Acholi sub region.

Brig. Kavuma says opposition politicians campaigning in the region are using what he called diversionary propaganda of land grabbing as a means to achieving election victory. He says the cheap politicking is charging members of the public into recipe for future chaos.

Brig. Kavuma warned that such politicians will be judged by history and personally held accountable for the tension they are creating. He says the politicians should desist from sensationalizing land matters and outline crucial development agenda such as wealth creation, provision of better education and health.

Kavuma advised voters to treat the politicians with the contempt they deserve for causing unnecessary anxiety for many years. He said ugly scenes of old women undressing over land in Amuru could have been avoided if politicians were preaching development.

Land grabbing saga in Acholi sub region has been at the heart of many politicians including Independent presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi. Last week, Mbabazi pledged to institute a moratorium on land transactions when elected president in view of investigating disputed land deals in Northern Uganda.

Dr. Abed Bwanika, the People's Development Party (PDP) presidential candidate also pledged to check land grabbing in Acholi sub region by issuing titles to all customary landlords.

In April last year, some women in Pabbo Sub County, Amuru district undressed in front of government officials including lands minister Daudi Migereko and the then internal affairs minister General Aronda Nyakairima.

At the local level, Livingstone Okello Okello, the Uganda People's Party stalwart insists that land grabbing is real in Acholi sub region. He says he wants to represent the people of Cua County in the 10th parliament so as to pursue some of the contentious land matters in courts.
