The Sub County Chairperson, Benson Amone is alleged to have used abusive language against the cultural Chief of Pader Cultural Institution, Rwot Francis Orik, on two different public occasions within a spate of one month.
The LCIII Chairperson for Ogom Sub County in Pader district
has landed in trouble with the local chiefdom for allegedly insulting the
cultural chief of the Pader Cultural Institution.
The Sub County Chairperson, Benson Amone is reported to
have used abusive language against the cultural Chief of Pader Cultural
Institution Rwot Francis Orik on two different public occasions within a space
of one month.
In a letter authored by the prime minister of Pader
Cultural Institution Moses Odong Ogele, it’s alleged that the accused used
demeaning words against the chief while he presided over a funeral occasion in
Otum Pili village in Kiteny parish in Ogom Sub County earlier this month.
According to Odong, its alleged that over the weekend
again, while addressinga section of newly elected leaders at
Apiri Primary School, Amone is reported to have insulted the local chief
calling him “stupid” during the public meeting.

Odong says the Pader cultural institution council in
their sitting on Sunday resolved that the accused be ordered to pay a bull to
the chiefdom as damages for exhibiting bad behavior against the chiefdom and
for disrespecting and humiliating the cultural chief.
When contacted for comment, Amone denied having received
any letter from the chiefdom compelling to pay the fine although he admits of
having attended the public meetings he is purported to have made the
utterances in.

Amone however denied any wrong doing and maintains that
the matter could be politically motivated and being engineered by his
opponents. Alex Oyet the Acholi Paramount Chiefdom Coordinator for
East Acholi Sub Region condemned the incident saying anyone who uses derogatory
language against the person of the cultural chief or the Paramount chief
commits a wrongdoing.

According to Oyet, section 51 of the constitution of the
Acholi Cultural Institution stipulates that insulting the person of the
paramount chief or any of his inferior cultural chiefs is disrespectful of the
chiefdom and any one held liable of having commit such an offence will be
subjected to pay a bull to the chiefdom.
