Pakwach Accident Death Toll Reaches Nine

The death toll in the Pakcwach accident has risen to nine. Police recovered two more bodies at Pujwanga Landing site at around 8pm on Monday night.

 

The deceased include 56-year-old Milly Amina Lanyero, a resident of Nwoya district and unidentified three year-old-child.

The two were part of several others who were killed when a canter truck registration number UBA 904 Z they were traveling in plunged in River Nile on September 16th.

 

The truck was carrying more than 30 people mainly traders from Pabbo in Amuru district to Panyimur market in Pakwach district.

Information obtained from police shows that the truck driver stopped near Packwach Bridge to offload some scrap but the braking system failed forcing the truck to roll backward and plunge in River Nile with all occupants.

 

 

 

The bodies of the deceased are still lying at Pakwach health center mortuary. The unidentified driver of the ill-fated truck who was rescued alive from the river escaped and is in hiding.
