Parliament has approved Uganda shillings of over 200 billion for the enhancement of salaries for Uganda Peoples Defense Officers and scientists.

Parliament has approved 200 billion shillings for the enhancement
of salaries for Uganda Peoples Defense Officers.
This was after the house on Wednesday evening approved the budget
estimates for the Ministry of Defense and Internal Affairs.
According to the committee chairperson Doreen Amule, the committee
observed that in the phased salary enhancement scheme, partial salary
enhancement for lower ranks was done in financial year 2018/2019.
Amule said the Ministry was
now seeking an additional wage budget to cater for enhancement of salaries UPDF
officers and for scientists in the financial year 2019/2020.
“Enhancement of salaries for UPDF Scientists requires 33.2 billion
shillings and Enhancement of salaries for UPDF from the ranks of Captains to
Generals requires 196bn” the committee report reads.
In February last year, President Museveni promoted more than 2000
officers and men to various ranks.
Those promoted from the rank of Lt Gen to General this year include Ivan Koreta
and Joram Mugume. While those promoted from Major General to Lt. General
are Pecos Kutesa, John Mugume, Proscovioa Nalweyiso, Charles Awany Otema, James
Nakibus Lakara, Peter Elwelu and Muhoozi Kainerugaba among others.
