Speaker Adjourns House Over Missing MPs

The Kapelabyong MP, Julius Ochen told the house that several pictures are doing rounds on social media showing the Mityana Municipality MP, Francis Zzake with wounds on his body, which they cant ignore.

The plenary was suspended for one hour on Wednesday afternoon to compel Government to explain the whereabouts of several legislators who were picked up from Arua town on Monday night.

The legislators are Gerald Karuhanga, Ntungamo Municipality, Francis Zzake, Mityana Municipality, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, Kyadondo East, Paul Mwiru, Jinja East and Francis Gonahasa, Kabweri Countt.

The legislators were picked up by the Special Forces Command-SFC after unidentified people believed to be supporters of Kasiano Wadri, one of the candidates in the Arua municipality parliamentary by-elections allegedly pelted the president's convoy with stones.

They are being held in undisclosed locations on the tentative charges of obstructing the president's motorcade and inciting violence.

On Tuesday, parliament tasked in vain the Internal Affair's Minister, General Jeje Odongo to disclose circumstances surrounding the arrest of the legislators and where they were are being held.

This afternoon, the Leader of the Opposition Betty Aol Ochan brought up the issue of the detained legislators as a matter of national importance. Aol said Parliament can't seat normally when the whereabouts of other members is unknown.

She said today it is their colleagues but the next time it might any of the MPs in parliament. Aol accused government of failing to come out clearly on the whereabouts of the MP, saying they will divide themselves and trace for the legislators should government fail to provide satisfactory answers.

The photos believed to be of Zzake, show deep cuts on the MPs hands, ears and swollen face. Following a protracted debate on the matter, the First Deputy Prime Minister, General Moses Ali agreed with the plea of the MPs to suspend the house so that they get answers about the missing MPs.

The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga adjourned the house to 4:45 pm as demanded by the legislators to allow government to respond to their concerns.
