People Power Spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi Addressing The Rally
People Power pressure group has unveiled its consultation
road map for 2020, among the informal sector in the country. The group
paraded dozens of mobilizers drawn from the informal sector in Central, Eastern
and West Nile at an indoor event held at its headquarters in Kamwokya, a suburb
of Kampala on Sunday afternoon.
Some of the mobilizers introduced themselves
indicating that they were from Busoga, greater Masaka, West Nile and the
Central and Eastern Uganda. Kampala based Political Activist; Frank Gasumba also
attended the rally. He told cheering People Power supporters that they are
ready to record another landslide victory similar to the one they received in
Kyandondo East Parliamentary elections which took, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu
to parliament in 2021.
Gashumba appealed for unity and hard work during the campaign
trail as the group embarks on nationwide consultations in January 2020. The
group used the rally to indicate that it intends to ride on voter population in
the informal sector, women constituencies and youth to achieve victory.
Fred Nyanzi Ssentongo, an aspirant for the Kampala Central
Parliamentary Constituency, said people power will join force with the
Democratic Party faction opposed to the leadership of President, Norbert Mao to
bolster the strength of the group.
“I am calling upon all of you to make sure you do your part.
All of us should populate every available mass communication domain with the
agenda of people power for us to convert our strong support base into real
votes for our candidates” he said throwing his fist in the air.
Nyanzi said Ugandan voters should shun members of parliament
who will not ally themselves with the Afro Pop musician cum politicians in the
2021 general elections. Kyagulanyi was absent at the meeting that was attended
by many Democratic Party members of Parliament.
Joel Senyonyi, the Spokesperson of the group said they will
launch their consultations from Kyadondo East County, the home of their
Presidential Aspirant before spreading out to other regions of Uganda.
Senyonyi spoke at length about moles infiltrating their camp
urging supporters to be disciplined throughout the consultations. He said the
year 2020 is a year of Actions and Revolution for Sustainable Democratic
The meeting was held under the theme "the informal
Sector in the Red Beret Revolution. Spreading the Revolution in Style". Several
women spoke at it urging fellow women to buttress the political agenda as
mothers appealing to their husbands and their Children to vote with nationalistic
ideologies in minds.
