David Alira, the party’s Secretary-General Alira said that they have kicked off consultations with security personnel to agree on how and when the event can be hosted following coronavirus standard operating procedures.
The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) will hold its delegates’
conference before the end of this year.
The party is currently reorganizing and awakening party
structures before the delegates’ conference is held. The party last held a
delegates’ conference in 2015 although they had planned to hold one ahead of
January 2021 polls, but failed due to the covid-19 outbreak.
Unlike other political parties, PPP which was formed by Bidandi
Sali in 2004 had not been able to secure a seat in the parliament as well as
the lower council seats for about a decade and a half.
However, in the recent election, the party fronted Santa Okot as its flag
bearer for the Aruu North County constituency parliamentary seat in Pader
district in which she was victorious against two other candidates.
The party also managed to secure thirteen seats in the different local councils
within Pader district.

Alira says that they are also engaging other political parties to
improve the working relationship as well as the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty
Democracy which funds the Inter-party Organization for Dialogue (IPOD).
Alira also said PPP is willing to join the Interparty Organization
for Dialogue (IPOD), which brings together parties with representation in
Parliament to dialogue on issues affecting the country.
Alira wonders how political parties accept to be part of the National
Consultative Forum but ignore IPOD, yet both platforms are basically for

Last week, the National Unity Platform-NUP declined to join IPOD.
According to Alira, the party will propose different alternative
policies to the Leader of Opposition in Parliament.
