Hundreds thronged Jinja based forever resort beach to enjoy the 2019 fish festival.

Funded by GIZ, the festival attracted researchers and experts from government organizations like National Fisheries Research Institute and Makerere university School of agriculture who sensitized participants on acceptable fishing methods and how best to improve on their aquaculture practices.

Christopher Kibazanga, the state minster for agriculture who flagged off the festival tasked fishermen to embrace the recommended fishing gears, which help them harvest sizeable fish and thus more income.

John Walakira, a senior research scientist with the National Agricultural Research Organization-NARO, said fish is a healthy protein meat contributor to all people irrespective of their age groups.

He asked fishermen to strive to protect fish breeding areas within the large water bodies, which can lead to production of high quantities of fish for both local consumption and export.

Revelers were also treated to a fish feast, where they purchased different fish products and enjoyed them with their families and friends.
