Thousands of Ateker people gathered at Soroti Sports Ground on Wednesday, braving a heavy downpour to showcase their talents and traditions to President Yoweri Museveni and his guests.
The Ateker Reunion Festival, which will last for three days, brings together all Ateker communities from Ethiopia, Kenya, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The event has also attracted guests from Turkey and South Africa.
Just minutes after President Museveni arrived at the venue, a heavy downpour forced attendees to crowd into the already-packed tents.
As the Minister of Gender, Labour, and Social Development, Betty Amongi, tried to skip the Atekerin match in the program due to the rain, the Karimojong groups took to the ground with their Edonga, interrupting David Pulkol’s communication as he read the memo from the Ateker dialogue held on Tuesday.
This prompted the program controllers to invite all the groups to participate in showcasing their talents and cultures.
