The Minister of State for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees in the Office of Prime Minister, Esther Davinia Anyakun over the weekend officially flagged off the repatriation of over 2000 Burundi refugees from Nakivale resettlement Camp in Isingiro District.

At least 350 refugees left for Burundi by road through Tanzania on Sunday. They join 256 refugees who left Uganda last week and 231 who were airlifted to Bujumbura in December last year. 

The voluntary repatriation is being conducted in collaboration with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees. Uganda hosts over 1.4 million refugees from different countries in the Great Lakes Region such as South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Burundi and Eriteria among others. 

According to UNHCR statistics, Uganda hosts about 51,000 Burundian refugees, 40535 of which are in Nakivale refugee resettlement camp. The camp hosts 145,227 refugees. URN brings you the fun filled day in Pictorial.
