Pictorial: Pilgrimage In Wipolo Martyrs Shrine in Agago District

Born around 1902 in Ogom-Payira to pagan parents, Lodi and Amona, Daudi attended the instruction to receive baptism aged 16. Baptized by Father Cesare Gambaretto on June 1, 1916, Daudi received his first holy communion on the same day and was confirmed on October 15, 1916.

Thousands of pilgrims celebrated the 99th anniversary of two Uganda Martyrs Daudi Okelo and Jildo Irwa at Wipolo Martyrs Shrine in Paimol Sub County Agago district.

The two Acholi born catechists were killed in 1918, hardly two years of vocation in an area deeply rooted in culture, famine and slave trade in the then Kalongo sub county in present day Agago district two years after receiving their the sacrament of baptism and confirmation.
