Rotarian Henry Kyemba was on Thursday evening laid to rest at his ancestral home, in Wanyama road, in Northern division in Jinja city.

He was accorded a state burial graced by government representatives and other VIPs across the country who joined his family to celebrate a life well lived.

Kyemba served as a minister in the major post colonial governments of Apollo Milton Obote, Iddi Amin Dada and current one being led by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni respectively.

He also served as the parliamentary representative of Jinja West before retiring from active politics in 2001. Despite his prominence in Uganda's post-colonial history, Kyemba's elderly years have been defined with selfless service through Rotary activities.

The district governor of Rotary district, 9213, Edward Kakembo described Kyemba as a straight forward gentleman whose life relied on helping others achieve their goals.

Kakembo notes that, even during his olden age, Kyemba advocated for healthy communities and corrupt free society. Kyemba is survived by a wife, four children and grandchildren.

Meanwhile, his wife, Janet Nabirye Kyemba, described him as a virtuous man, very cautious on accountability and he stood against wasting public funds in any form, even when the activity investment would benefit his personal interests.

"If my husband was alive today, he would have been the first to decline the offer of such expenses towards his burial since he never wanted any waste of taxpayers money, but as a family, we accepted this kind of arrangement only because he is a statesman, deserving an official send-off from the people he both loved and selflessly served," added his wife.
