The police have arrested 12 members of a group suspected to have masterminded attacks against unsuspecting Kampala city dwellers in recent weeks.

After the attack which was captured by the Closed Circuit Television
cameras-CCTV on Mawanda road, the police have started a manhunt for the masterminds who have since been arrested in separate joint security operations conducted in different parts of Kampala.
Speaking to Journalists in Kampala, Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said that persons involved in that incident were arrested over the weekend and he identified them as Asibu Takuba alias
Stephen, Jimmy Sserwada, Gadafi
Kasibante,
Jonah Ssemanda, Richard
Mulema, Sharif Akidi and Aloysius Ssewakilyanga.
The others were identified as Latif Mawejje, Salim Babu, Farouk Ssekaganda alias Sharif, and one Swaibu who allegedly has been accommodating
and hiding the gang after executing robberies. Enanga explains that during the operations, a few of the suspects helped the police to raid several of their hideouts in Natete
areas.
”We took few of the suspects and helped us to reconstruct and
re-document the scene properly, on how they would plant their accomplices along
the boda-boda stages and that is how they would get build-up as they are tracking
their target and rob them at the most opportune
time. Said Enanga.

During the operations,
Enanga explains that they also recovered three motorcycles from the suspects.

Many such incidents have been captured by police CCTV
cameras. The criminals trail their victims and punch them until they
are unconscious before running away with bags containing large sums of
money.
On July 15, Naboth Mpeirwe, a teacher was reportedly attacked by a group of thugs at the baseball
Court of Kyambogo University hitting him with a blunt object on the head which left
him unconscious resulting in his death later on.
On July 18, the Buganda Road Court
Chief Magistrate, Gladys Kamasanyu was attacked outside the Green Hill
Academy school gate who hardly assaulted her before taking her belongings including the
Phone, handbag among other valuables. Men riding on three
motorbikes targeted the magistrate as she went to collect PLE results from the school.
