Police in Jinja is holding 45 suspects for alleged possession of opium and marijuana.
The suspects include 60-year-old Gertrude Nabirye who is said to be supplying opium to youth in Namulese village in Mafubira Sub County.
These were arrested today morning in an operation aimed at reducing crime after police received various complaints of robbery and rape.
According to the Jinja District Police Commander, Mugizi Felix, Nabirye was arrested after police found her with some sacks of marijuana. The others arrested from Nabirye's home include Mukasa Mariah and Yasin Yate who were found with 101 sticks of opium.
Some of the youths arrested said that they were attacking area residents as a way of expressing anger to the leaders for whom they campaigned for but were never paid.
Mugizi notes that the suspects will be arraigned in court for trading in banned substances.
He added that police operations will continue targeting over 140 youths who have been investigated and found to be trading in opium.
