Police Arrests Suspected Cattle Rustlers in Moroto

Police in Moroto have arrested five rustlers in connection of stealing 20 goats from Nakapiripirit district

Police in Moroto have arrested five suspected cattle rustlers in connection with their alleged involvement in the theft of 20 goats from Nakapiripirit district.

One armed rustler escaped arrest.

The suspects were rounded up during a night patrol on the outskirts of Moroto town.

The Karamoja Police spokesperson, George Obia, says the suspects are; Loumo Lomuria, Lobong Keem, Acio Cholare, Lokwamere Lomilo and Loyep Lomakai. All are residents of Lopurin village, Nawanatau parish in Moroto district. He says the police have enough evidence to pin the suspects to the theft of the goats.

As rains intensify in Karamoja security agencies have stepped up patrols to fight cases of animal theft that are on the increase.

Meanwhile, Moroto Magistrate court has remanded six warriors to Moroto central Prison on charges of cattle rustling contrary to section 266 sub-section (a) of the penal code act.

The suspects are Loilo Lotukei, Loile Nangiro, Achia Mariko and Longuk Apaongura. Others are Lokiru Angolere and Lodumo Apayoli.

Court heard that on the 28th of March the suspects being in a group of warriors’ from Napak district stole animals worth Shs 10 million. The animals were property of Lodimo Lochoro a resident of Lokitiak village, Lobunet parish in Moroto district.

They appeared before Grade one Magistrate Duncan Sunday pending their plea to the chief magistrate.
