Police have blocked the campaign rally of independent presidential candidate, Joseph Kabuleta in Masindi district accusing him of flouting the campaign guidelines.

Kabuleta, who was scheduled to hold his campaign rally at Masindi Booma grounds in Masindi town on Sunday was received by hundreds of his supporters including Boda-Boda riders who met him at Kijura trading center, about 1 km away from Masindi town.

He was intercepted by police led by Masindi District Police Commander, Vincent Irama as he tried to move to the street leading to Masindi Central Market for lunch before proceeding to Masindi Boma grounds.

Police ordered Kabuleta to stop in vain forcing them to grab him and force him back into his vehicle to the chagrin of his supporters.  This prompted police to use teargas to disperse them.

According to Irama, Kabuleta deviated from the agreed guidelines and was instead holding a procession in Masindi town in disregard of the COVID-19 preventive guidelines. However, Kabuleta insisted that he hadn’t broken any law.

He asked the people of Masindi to vote for him so that he can liberate them financially, saying Bunyoro is still backward in terms of roads, Education and household incomes among other things.
