Police Chief, Lwengo Chairman Arrested With Ballot Boxes

Lwengo LC V chairman George Mutabaazi and the Officer in Charge of the Political Crimes desk at Lwengo Police Station Michael Mbirimu are in custody for tempering with ballot boxes. Maxwell Ogwal, the Greater Masaka Regional Police Commander ordered the arrest of the duo on Monday evening.

According to Ogwal, the suspects were found trying to sneak eight ballot boxes from Lwengo Central Police Station ahead of today\'s NRM primaries for the election of parliamentary, LC V chairpersons and Mayoral candidates. Eddy Sansa, an aspirant for Bukoto Midwest NRM MP party ticket says they raised alarm when they saw Mbalimu loading eight ballot boxes on Mutabaazi\'s vehicle. 

Sansa suspects the ballot boxes were meant to facilitate vote rigging for the LC V chairperson. Mutaabazi is contesting for the Lwengo LC V chairperson NRM party ticket. Sansa suspects that the primary elections could have been rigged. Our reporter couldn\'t get a comment from the NRM Electoral Commission officials in Lwengo as they were busy with the distribution of voting materials.
