Police have denied having knowledge of the whereabouts of Sophie Nabossa, the former Greater Masaka Region Go Forward coordinator. Nabossa was reportedly picked up from her home in Nyendo on Friday night by plain clothed Police officers led by John Mwaule, the Masaka District Police Commander.

The officers reportedly claimed that Nabossa was needed for abetting the escape of Amos Kaheru, the former Rakai Go Forward Coordinator who is facing treason and his alleged involvement in subversive activities. Nabossa had earlier helped secure the release of Kaheru from remand at Masaka Central Prison.

On Friday, Kaheru appeared before Masaka High Court Judge, Eudes Keitirima for a ruling on his bail application and was released on a cash bond of Shillings 5 million. His wife Jane Kaheru mobilized Shillings 2 million while former Independent presidential candidate, John Patrick Amama Mbabazi contributed Shillings 3 million.

However, it took some time for Kaheru's family to clear the money and present the cash deposit slips to court prompting the officers to hold on him. Sophie Nabossa, the former Greater Masaka region Go Forward coordinator delivered the cash deposit slips to court at around 7pm to secure the release of Kaheru.

As a result, police raided Nabossa's home and whisked her to unknown destination. John Mwaule, the Masaka District Police Commander who is said to have led the operation declined to speak to our reporter on the arrest of Nabossa.

Maxwell Ogwal, the Greater Masaka Region Police Commander feigned ignorance on the arrest of Nabbosa, saying none of his officers were involved in the purported raid on her home. According to Ogwal, he neither authorised nor approved any raid on Nabbossa's home. The disappearance of Nabossa has triggered tension in Nyendo-Masaka municipality.
