Police Closes Tropic Inn Hotel Over Anti - Mao, Mbidde Crusade

The Police has this morning closed down Tropic Inn Hotel in Masaka municipality, locking out Democratic Party Members who had started gathering for a Crusade aimed at discussing the party wrangles .

A section of Democratic Party led by MP Mathias Mpuuga convened a crusade to discuss the party wrangles which saw Vice President for Buganda region Betty Nambooze suspended.

Mpuuga had booked Tropic Inn Hotel as Venue for the crusade. However, anti riot police commanded by John Mwawule, the Masaka District Police commander raided the hotel and ordered all guests to leave the place. All the DP members that had started gathering were dispersed. Mpuuga who arrived at around 10am was also locked out.

The Masaka District Police Commander Mwawule told MP Mpuuga that the meeting was illegal and therefore could not be held at Tropic Inn Hotel. He told Mpuuga that the meeting had not been approved by Democratic Party National Executive Council.

DPC Mwaule later walked away with MP Mpuuga and other DP members convened a crisis meeting at his offices.

Rose Namirimu,the manager Tropic Inn Hotel told DP members that police had stopped them from hosting any DP members. She therefore notes that until they get clearance from DP and IGP Gen Kale Kayihura.

But later Mpuuga clashed with Police and told them that stopping the meeting was equally illegal.

Vienne Ndugga, the Masaka Democratic Party Deputy Organizing Secretary has accused Police of failing to use their conscience but follow orders from Mukasa Mbidde,the DP Vice President.

Police have deployed heavily in Lweera wetland along Masaka-Kampala Highway searching all passengers traveling to Masaka. Police is reportedly searching for MP Betty Nambooze to stop her from proceeding to Masaka for the meeting.

This week, a divided Democratic Party National Executive committee resolved to suspend  Nambooze from the party for allegedly dividing the party. Mukasa Mbidde says Nambooze is not allowed to convene any meeting under DP.
