Police have deployed in Fort Portal Tourism City streets ahead of
an anticipated procession by National Unity Platform -NUP supporters.
Yesterday, NUP leaders in Tooro Sub-region took to social media to call on
supporters of the party to gather at their Ruhandiika Street office for a
procession around the city.
According to the Tooro Sub-Region NUP coordinator, Innocent Natukunda, the
procession is aimed at celebrating the Nomination of NUP Presidential Flag
Bearer, Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi.
However, even before the start of the procession, police has deployed in the
city centre.
According to the Kabarole Resident District Commissioner, Steven Asiimwe, who
also heads the security committee in the district, the deployment is aimed at
ensuring peace.
But Natukunda says he is still mobilizing his colleagues and they are taking to
streets despite the threats and deployment from security.
Asked whether he had got clearance for the procession, Natukunda, who is also
vying for the Mwenge North Parliamentary seat, says they do not need permission
to celebrate the nomination of their presidential candidate.
