Henry Engwedu, a police deserter has been arrested in Kumi for impersonating as National Drug Authority- NDA Drug Inspector. Engwedu formerly attached to Field Force Protection Unit- FFPU was arrested on Thursday.

Engwedu and Dr Martin Okello were allegedly carrying out illegal operations and confiscating drugs in Osera, Kapokin, Akum and Akide under Ongino sub-counties.

Oscar Greg Ageca, the East Kyoga Regional Police Spokesman says the two were arrested after the community became suspicious of their operations.

The pair is currently being detained at Kumi Central Police Station pending investigation and consequent arraignment before the courts of law. The suspects also survived being lynched by an angry mob.

Richard Omoit, one of the drug shop attendants in Kumi says the NDA impersonators took advantage of the quacks operating drug shops to solicit money from the unsuspecting targets.

“In most cases, people operating drug shops illegally fear to interrogate these impersonators when they come and many have fallen victim. Anybody can come around and pick money in the name of NDA because several people are not licensed to operate drug shops”, he said.
