Yafesi Akwayo stand with some of family members whose huts were torched down
Serere police are holding a man suspected of arson. The suspect whose identity has been withheld by police is wanted for torching three grass thatched houses in Kadungulu Sub County to ashes on Thursday night.
He was tracked down with the help of a police sniffer dog. Kitiyo Cheptai, the Deputy Officer in Charge of the Criminal Investigations Department at Serere Central Police Station, says the fire destroyed household property worth Millions of Shillings.
According to Kitiyo, the grass thatched huts belonged to Yafesi Akwayo. He says on the same night the house of Patrick Ewalu at Mairo-Mukaga cell in Kasilo town council in Serere district was also torched around 9pm.
He says the matter was reported to Serere Central Police Station under reference number SD REF: 06/31/01/2019. Three cases of arson were reported at Serere CPS in January 2019.
The first incident occurred at Kadungulu Health Center III where a midwife was attacked and her house set ablaze following a dispute over land.
