Police Fires Live Bullets, Teargas To Disperse Rowdy Boda Boda Riders

Dan Mufitimukiza, the landlord of the house said that he rented the house to two men who presented to him letters from their former chairperson LC 1 in Kakoba noting that they paid him two months in advance but he had never entered their house noting that he had never bothered knowing what they were doing.
Police in Mbarara City on Wednesday fired live bullets and teargas to disperse rowdy boda boda riders who wanted to set ablaze a house where five stolen motorcycles were recovered.

The motorcycles suspected to have been stolen were found in Rubiri cell, Nyamityobora ward in Mbarara City during a Wednesday morning operation.

Richard Begumisa, the chairman LC1 Rubiri cell said the operation was aimed at arresting two suspected hardcore criminals when they stormed their rental house in the wee hours.

He said they have been following a group of men for a month whose behaviors were wanting in the village.  Lauben Turyahabwe,  the chairman Kakoba Division boda boda riders Association said that the theft of motorcycles in Mbarara had reduced not until at the start of this month when three motorcycles were reported stolen in Kakoba.

He said they are yet to identify the owners of the recovered motorcycles.

Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi region Police spokesperson said that several stolen items including 8 number plates, wielding machines were also recovered from the raided house.

He narrated that the two suspects whose names he concealed managed to escape arrest might have been tipped off by their collaborators who were part of the people who helped Local council and police in the operation. He aid investigations have commenced to arrest the suspects and their accomplices.

Sadious Oukunda, the Chairperson Mbarara City Boda Boda Riders Association said the operation followed the stealing of a motorcycle from Easy view stage on Tuesday night noting that it was the fifth motorcycle to be stolen within this month.

He asked police to intensify night patrols especially in the areas that have been identified as hot-spots.

He said police had asked him not to reveal the names of the suspects to media not to jeopardize investigations.

By press time, the suspected stolen motorcycles were towed to Mbarara central police station as a hunt for the prime suspects begins.
