Police is hunting for the driver of land rover vehicle registration number UXE839 for reckless driving. The driver was captured on phone camera by other road users carrying eucalyptus poles along Bombo-Luweero Highway over the weekend.

The video, which went viral on social media, shows the vehicle meandering from one corner of the other under the weight of the poles, which police says presented a substantial risk of severe physical injury, to other motorists and road users on the highway.

In the video police officers aboard a patrol vehicle registration number UP2954 are seen trying to wave down the driver.  Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga, says the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled into hiding when the officers approached his vehicle.

According to Enanga, the officers impounded the vehicle and towed it to Bombo police Station, adding that they are hunting for the driver to face charges of dangerous loading and road misuse.

“We want to thank witnesses of such traffic violations, whose actions in recording videos helps in spreading bad behavior on the roads. Such videos are also a tool of seeking justice on social media by shaming the wrong doers,” Enanga said.

He also notes that the Professional Standards Unit is investigating the slow response of the police officers and the circumstances under which the driver fled from the scene.

Enanga was addressing journalists at the weekly police briefing.
