Police in Arua City have impounded 15 numberless motorcycles believed to have been used by criminals to carry out attacks on people in broad daylight and at night.

The motorcycles which include Senke and Bajaj models were impounded during an intelligence-led operation carried out in the City outskirts on Tuesday.13 suspects were also arrested during the operation.

The operation according to police covered the areas of Arua Primary School, Kirabu cell, Ozua cell, Oli D cell all in Arua central division, and Terego cell, Ediofe area, Pajulu BAT all in Ayivu division among other areas.

Josephine Angucia, the West Nile Region Police Spokesperson explains that the operations followed numerous complaints from the City dwellers over attacks by suspected criminal gangs who attack pedestrians, and other unsuspecting members of the public while riding on numberless motorcycles.

“Operations on numberless motorcycles have been stepped up in the City because criminals use them to commit organized crimes like robberies, thefts, murders, and others”, Angucia said.

Fred Tabu, the Deputy Arua City Speaker appealed to the security operatives to continue with such operations until the City is free of organized crimes.

According to Tabu, most of the gangs have taken advantage of the non-functional street lights to target pedestrians before speeding off using numberless motorcycles.

“Junior Quarter is the same. It's worse here with the dark streets of the beautiful Enyau road thieves have taken over here grabbing everything from phones to handbags using speeding senke.”, Tabu noted.

This is the second major operation targeting criminal gangs in the city in the past two weeks. Last week, 45 suspected criminals were arrested during a similar operation and have since been slapped with various charges ranging from having breaking implements, Opium, and simple robberies.

Ever since Arua attained city status in July 2020, several notorious criminal gang groups like ''Fire Eaters", “Chicken Can Not Pass”, “The jobless millionaires”, “Above the Law”, and “The 35 Dogs” among others have been wreaking havoc in several streets in the central division.

The gangs normally target people with money, phones, and other valuables as they rush home in the evening hours and sometimes during broad daylight.
