A man, who was convicted to week’s community service by Koboko magistrate’s court last week, has been found dead.

Gordon Idoru found the lifeless body of 28-year-old John Awule, a resident of Nyarilo Cell in Koboko municipality hanging on a rope inside his house when he went to check on him on Monday morning.

He immediately alerted the neighbours who also notified the police. According to reports, the Koboko grade one magistrate’s court convicted Awule last week to community service for 14 days for threatening violence.

The convict was expected to start serving his sentence this week.

Hudson Ocen, the West Nile Region Police Spokesperson, says that the deceased locked himself inside his house around 5 am and took his life.

Cue out:… to kill himself,”//

Preliminary Police indicates that Awule could have committed suicide due to his conviction and subsequent sentencing to community service.

According to Police reports, suicide cases in West Nile are on the rise mainly resulting from the hard, economic times arising from the prolonged lockdown.

In July alone, police registered 10 cases of suicide in the region.
