Police are investigating
circumstances under, which fire gutted the Centenary Bank branch in Apac
District. The fire broke out on Tuesday morning in the Centenary branch building
on Plot 22 Akokoro road in Apac municipality.
It destroyed two of the four
compartments on the building. A team of officers from the Police Fire and
Rescue Services from Lira City rushed to extinguish the fire to stop it from extending
to the remaining compartments.

Preliminary findings show that a short circuit might have triggered the fire. Okema
has advised companies and business operators in the region to install fire
extinguishers at their various workplaces to help in case of fire emergencies.
“We would like to encourage people to install fire extinguishers in their
buildings to support fighting fire of this nature before our fire truck comes
at the scene. Besides installation, learn how to operate the extinguishers,” he
said.
Albert Clay Mulele, the Bank’s branch manager, says that the fire did not cause
much damage as normal business resumed just a few hours after the incident.

He advised customers who had made prior appointments to visit the institution
to proceed as planned because the bank is functional.
