Police in Kapchorwa District have launched investigations into the murder of a woman who was killed by unknown assailants on Valentine’s Day. The victim has been identified as Nancy Chebet from Kapchela Cell in West Division, Kapchorwa Municipality.

Fredmark Chesang, the Sipi Regional Police spokesperson, stated that preliminary investigations indicate that around 9 p.m. on the night of her murder, Chebet received a phone call, left her parents' home, and never returned. Her body was discovered on Saturday in a culvert a few meters from her home.

According to Chesang, the body bore fresh strangulation marks on the neck and a wound on the head, possibly caused by a blunt metal object. "We have opened a case of murder, and a team has been dispatched to conduct thorough investigations. Once completed, the suspects will be apprehended," Chesang stated.

The body of the deceased is currently at Kapchorwa Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination. A relative of the deceased, who requested anonymity, told Uganda Radio Network that Chebet had previously separated from her husband, a soldier, due to family misunderstandings. Since the separation, she had been living with her parents until the time of her death.

"Police are investigating the matter, and we have already provided a statement," the relative said. This incident comes just a month after another woman, aged 29, was found murdered in Kamuswahili Cell, Kapchorwa Municipality. Her body was discovered along the Kapchorwa-Mbale Highway, also suspected to have been killed by unknown assailants.
