Police Investigate of Death of Suspect in Custody

Ibanda Police are investigating the death of a suspect in police holding cell.

The lifeless body of 25-year-old, Ronald Baguma, a resident of Kajwamushana village in Rugaaga parish in Kaihangara Sub County was found hanging in the cells of Kaihangara police post on Saturday.   

The suspect had been picked up for allegedly threatening his step mother, Grace Baguma with death following a dispute over the sale of family land worth Shillings 150million.  

Francis Kariyo, the Kaihangara Sub county LC III Chairperson, says the family has been feuding on how to share the money accrued from the sale of the land.  

Hanniton Asiimwe, the officer in charge of Kaihangara police post, says they found the deceased hanging in the cells when they opened to allow in another suspect.   

Our reporter couldn’t independently verify the officer’s narrative.  

The deceased’s step mother, Grace Baguma, says the suspect was picked up after he threatened to chop her into pieces.  

The Rwizi Region police spokesperson, Samson Kasasira, says they have commenced investigations to establish how the suspect met his death.
