Police Investigates Grenade Explosion At Omukama's Farm

The explosion occurred on Saturday morning injuring 19-year old Moses Ojaka, a casual laborer at Royal Ranchers.
Masindi police are investigating a grenade explosion at the farm of the Omukama of Bunyoro Solomon Gafabusa Iguru at Kabutukuru village in Miirya Sub County. The explosion occurred on Saturday morning injuring 19-year old Moses Ojaka, a casual laborer at Royal Ranchers.

He sustained fractured legs and a ruptured stomach and is currently admitted at Masindi hospital. Moses Ekudot, the Masindi district police commander says Ojaka was injured while warming up near a fire in the farm. Ekudot said UPDF bomb experts were called in to confirm the explosion and clear the scene.

He says investigations into the source of the explosive are ongoing. Ekudot says the explosion has taken security in the district by surprise since it is the first time it has occurred in the district. He advises residents to be cautious when they come across unfamiliar objects.

Regina Asire, Ojaka’s mother says she could not believe what had befallen her son, despite the fact that she is happy that he is still alive. Asire rushed to Masindi from Bugiri on learning of the incident.

Our reporter couldn't get a comment from medics at Masindi hospital about Ojaka’s condition, but Asire said her son had been operated on. Bunyoro officials are yet to comment on the incident which points to the loose security around the Omukama’s farm.
