Police Mounts Hunt for Driver in Luwero Accident

The accident occurred after the tyre of a commuter taxi Registration Number UBH 708Q in which the four were travelling burst and forced it to swerve off the road. The deceased was identified as Bukenya Moses 43, a resident of Katikamu-Gala in Luwero District.

Police in Luwero District are hunting for the driver of a taxi that was involved in an accident in Luwero District last evening. The accident, that occurred at Sinalya village in Bombo Town Council claimed one life and left three others with severe injuries.

The accident occurred after the tyre of a commuter taxi Registration Number UBH 708Q in which the four were travelling burst and forced it to swerve off the road. The deceased was identified as Bukenya Moses 43, a resident of Katikamu-Gala in Luwero District.

Savannah Regional Police spokesperson Sam Twiineamazima says that the three persons who were injured in the accident are yet to be identified. However, they are all receiving treatment at Luwero Hospital, while the wreckage of the vehicle was taken to Bombo Police Station.

In an interview with Uganda Radio Network (URN), Twiineamazima says that the force has mounted a search for the driver who went into hiding after the accident. He says he has to be apprehended to assist police in its investigations.

Accidents remain a common occurrence in the Savannah region which comprises Luwero, Nakaseke and Nakasongola Districts, especially along the Kampala-Gulu highway. In mid-January, two motorcycles collided and instantly ended two lives at Bukomba along the Luwero-Kiwoko road in Luwero District.

In December, an accident in Luwero Town Council claimed the life of Sergeant John Bosco Ssenyimba, a Police officer hitherto attached to Luwero Central Police Station (CPS). Ssenyimba, who was riding a numberless Bajaj motorcycle was killed after a Taxi Registration Number UBJ 678J made a U-turn and crashed into the Fuso Reg. No. UBJ 273Q at Dawson Petrol Station.
