The detained police officer has been identified as Detective Assistant Inspector of police Reuben Kwihangana while the deceased is identified as Mawala Mawejje, a boda boda rider and a resident of Rukoge cell in Hoima West division of Hoima city.

A police officer attached to Hoima Central police station has been arrested for allegedly shooting and killing a civilian.
The police officer has been identified as Reuben Kwihangana, while the deceased is identified
as Mawala Mawejje, a boda boda rider and a resident of Rukoge cell in Hoima
West division of Hoima city. The shooting incident happened on Sunday night at
around 10 p.m. at Lusaka Middle cell in Hoima city.
It is alleged that the police officer, while riding a motorcycle, collided head-on with the boda boda rider in Hoima city.
After colliding, a scuffle ensued between the duo, with
the police officer accusing the boda boda rider of riding carelessly.
He reportedly pulled out a pistol and shot Mawejje on the head, killing him instantly. He later fled to an unknown destination.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, says police and other security agencies tracked down the officer and
arrested him, adding that murder charges have been slapped against the police
officer.
He says, police also recovered a pistol that was used in the
killing of the boda boda rider from the police officer.
On Saturday, the police in
Masindi arrested Corporal Aggrey Byamugisha, a Uganda People's Defence Forces soldier attached to Masindi Army Barracks, for allegedly shooting and
killing a civilian.
The deceased,
identified only as Mugisha, was a hawker and a resident of Masindi town.
The fatal shooting occurred at
around 1:50 a.m. at Brian’s and Trump Bar and Lodge located in Kijura North
Cell, Western Ward, Central Division of Masindi Municipality.
On the fateful day, Corporal
Byamugisha, armed with an AK-47 rifle and dressed in civilian clothing, stormed
the bar and began shooting indiscriminately.
Mugisha, who was among the
patrons, was struck by a bullet and died on the spot.
Following the incident,
the soldier fled to an unknown location, prompting the bar management to alert
police.
Security agencies mounted a
pursuit and arrested the suspect within Masindi town. He was subsequently
detained at Masindi Central Police Station.
Police recovered 14 cartridges
and one live bullet from the scene, all of which have been submitted for
ballistic analysis.
