Police has approved the Busoga Democratic Party-DP reunion meeting slated for Wednesday at Kakindu stadium.

According to a letter signed by John Nuwagira, the commissioner of police in- charge of operations, the reunion meeting has been approved, however, participants were barred from processions and uttering out political sentiments.

“Please, this is to inform you that your intended activity can go on as planned. The reunion meeting should, however, be limited to consultation because political rallies have their own set timelines. There should be no processions as well,” reads the letter in part.

In February the reunion meeting was blocked by police on claims that the organizers failed to comply with the provisions of the Public Order Management Act.

Police authorities led by the Kiira Region Police Commander, Paul Nkore held a closed-door harmonizing meeting with DP, president, Norbert Mao and other party stakeholders and all agreed on setting up another date for the event.

While addressing the press in Jinja town on Thursday evening, the reunion organizing committee chairperson, Walter Lubega told journalists that, the party had made consultations with the Prime Minister, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda and police chiefs to ensure that, the event is not blocked again.

Lubega adds that some police officers misinterpret the public order management act which puts them at loggerheads with the opposition yet the two entities are meant to work together.
