Police Recover Body of Kitgum Nurse From River

The body of 24-year-old Robert Mutegeki Akiiki, an enrolled Nurse who drowned in River Pager in Kitgum Municipality has been recovered.

The body was retrieved by officers from the Police fire and rescue team from a river in Nyanza ward in pager Division on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased, who worked in the surgery Department at St Joseph’s Hospital Kitgum drowned on Friday morning while crossing the fast flowing river to tend to his garden.

Kitgum Resident District Commissioner, William Komakech told Uganda Radio Network in an interview that the Akiki’s body was found trapped between shrubs in the river.

The body had started decomposing after spending almost five days in the water, according to Komakech.  

He says the body was taken for postmortem at Kitgum General Hospital mortuary were it was confirmed that the deceased died of drowning.

The  body was later handed to the deceased’s relatives for burial at their ancestral home in Kyenjojo district.
