Police at
Ntenjeru-Kisoga town council in Mukono district on Friday shot at traders who
were returning home in Mukono Municipality.
The traders who include Jimmy Kamuntu, a hawker, Charles Baraka Muluuta of
Muluuta agencies, and Herbart Myalo were traveling in a vehicle registration number
UAN 415N from Katosi landing site at around 8:30 pm.
According to Muluuta, they were stopped by police officers at the checkpoint
in Ntenjeru town. He explains that as
soon as they were cleared to go, they heard an unknown person instructing the
police to shoot at them, claiming that the vehicle they were traveling in
belongs to a Nile perch trader.
Muluuta says that Myalo was shot in the right leg near the ankle joint and is
currently admitted at CPR medical center in Mukono Central Division.

Irene Kukiriza, a medical worker at CPR medical center who received the patient
says they managed to remove the bullet from the leg.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango says they are yet
to produce a statement.
The incident comes two days after top police and army commanders ordered
security personnel in Mukono to shoot on sight whoever is found involved in
armed robberies.
Col. Fred Mwesigwa, who heads operation ‘Tokoora’ ordered Lt. Col. Mathew
Kalema who heads Mpoma barracks in Mukono to shoot on sight, armed robbers.

Mwesigwa’s order was supported by the Police Director for Operations, Edward
Ochom, and the Senior Commissioner Stephen Tanui who heads Kampala Metropolitan
Police.
Ronald Ssekamatte, a resident at Katosi says despite incidents of insecurity in
the district, police have only remained committed to arresting fish traders.
