A suspect who has been on the run has
been shot dead in Lira District. The deceased, identified as David Ogwang Ococ was shot by a police officer David Erima who had gone to execute his arrest at Tekulu
village, Ojwina Division in Lira Municipality.
It is alleged that the suspect who was late last year arrested
alongside seven others on a case of burglary and theft, broke the police cells
and escaped. His colleagues were presented before the court and have since been
Justine Okello, the complainant in that case alerted the
police on Wednesday evening after sighting the suspect in Tekulu Village, in
the outskirts of Lira Town.
The security team later mounted an operation at night and
found the suspect and others gathered before they tried to arrest him.
But Michael Odongo, the North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson says that the suspect tried to disarm the police officer who later fired
and killed the suspect instantly.
