Police in Wakiso District on Sunday used tear gas to disperse
People Power supporters who had gathered at Kakooge village in Kakiri Sub
County to open an office.
The office is for Paul Nsubuga a member of the National Unity Platform (NUP) which
he intends to use as his campaign headquarters for Busiro North Constituency
seat.
Nsubuga, who had travelled with musician Mathias Walukagga were intercepted by
the police under the command of Kakiri OC operations Asiimwe.
Asiimwe’s pleas to Nsubuga’s supporters to disperse fell on deaf
ears, prompting the police to fire tear gas.
The supporters accused the police of blocking Nsubuga’s gathering and opening
of the offices, despite area MP and State Minister for Luwero triangle Dennis
Ssozi Galabuzi and former Vice President Gilbert Bukenya openly campaigning in
the area two weeks ago without any interference.
// “cue in: twagala obwenkanya..
Cue out: … eyokunyigirizibwa”//
Walukagga says that the police’s actions were uncalled for.
// “cue in: from people power..
Cue out: .. kusula waka,” //
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire says that Nsubuga was
later arrested for disobedience of lawful orders and is detained Kakiri police
division.
