Policeman Shoots a 12 year-old Dead in Napak, Arrested

Lojore Loriang was killed while asleep in a family hut under mysterious circumstances.
A Policeman is in custody after shooting dead a 12 year-old in Napak district on Thursday night.


Lojore Loriang was killed while asleep in a family hut under mysterious circumstances.


The incident occurred at Napata village, Apeitolim parish in Lokopo Sub County, Napak district.


Micheal Ilukol, the Criminal Investigations Department Officer Napak district, says two residents had a quarrel during a drinking spree.


He identifies the two only as Nagiro and Nangiro.  During the quarrel Nagiro assaulted his colleague so severely he fell into coma. He adds that Nangiro is now admitted at Matany Missionary Hospital in the same district.


Ilukol further narrates that the vice chairman of the Napata village only identified Lokoputhe reported the matter at Lokopo police post.


He explains that four policemen were dispatched to the scene at 8.00pm to arrest Nagiro. However, the suspect had already disappeared. They mounted a search in the neighbours’ huts without any success adding that when the police entered the last hut a bullet went off killing Loriang in his sleep. He suspects the search being at the night the policeman had his gun cocked for any eventuality.


Now Ilukol says the policeman is in cells at Napak Central Police Station. He identifies the suspect as No. 122 Special Police Constable Patrick Okware attached to Apeitolim Police Post.


Okot Obwona, the Regional Police Commander Mount. Moroto area describes the incident as unfortunate. He explains that the police have embarked on investigations to establish the killing of the young boy. He advises residents to avoid excessive drinking in their villages saying they could utilize some of the hours to profitable activities. He notes that the police were compiling facts about the murder and soon the suspect will face the law.


This is the first time such unfortunate incident happens in Napak district.
