Political fights among leaders in Moyo district are threatening plans for the operationalization of the newly created Obongi district.

The new district is scheduled to take full effect on July 1, 2019.  But the district authorities are bickering over the partitioning of sub countries between the mother district and the new district.

Obongi County Member of Parliament Hassan Fungaroo Kaps, some of the leaders in Moyo district are in fear of losing revenue from the refugee hosting Sub Counties that will then be under Obongi district.  According to Fungaroo, the leaders are now plotting to carve out part of Palorinya sub country, to be maintained as part of the mother district.

Meanwhile, Lilly Duku, the female councilor for Aliba Sub County where the contested new Palorinya Sub County is located says the locals in Palorinya are already divided politically over where to belong when Obongi district is operationalised.

According to sources, the Madi speaking people of Palorinya fear that they may lose opportunities to the majority Gimara, Reli and Aliba communities, once they are forced to belong to Obongi district.

But Moyo District Chairman Williams Anyama who has been singled as one key player in advocating for the retention of Palorinya in Moyo district for political gains in the next elections rubbished the claims saying that the people of Palorinya have a right to decide their destiny.
